I recently a number of months working with In-House York and its only consultant, James, and I can confidently say I wouldn’t recommend this agency to anyone.
When we signed up, James assured us we’d receive comprehensive services: on-site conversion rate optimisation, SEO, email marketing setup and management, ad management (including creatives), regular analytics reviews, and catch-ups every two days. Unfortunately, almost none of this was delivered as promised, or if it was, it wasn't to an acceptable standard at all.
Here’s what we experienced:
Constant Chasing and Poor Follow-Through: I found myself chasing James daily to get even basic tasks done. The promised catch-ups, especially during ad testing, never happened. Communication was a constant struggle.
Low-Quality Work: The work we did receive was far below expectations. The creatives were poorly executed, and a "Contact Us" form that James added to our site was broken for months. We only realised later that we’d been missing leads due to a faulty setup.
Email Marketing Delays: Despite providing James with all the necessary assets for email campaigns, we waited weeks for results and had to constantly follow up. When the work was finally done, it was rushed and unimpressive.
When I asked about his lack of follow-through, James attributed it to mental health struggles and openly admitted he hadn’t kept up his end of the deal. He even suggested we part ways, admitting he couldn’t meet the standards he’d set in our agreement.
Adding to the confusion, James asked for a review after the first month, when his responsiveness was slightly better than in the following months. When I pressed him about the tasks he’d missed, he claimed he was only really hired to manage ads, and everything else was “extra” and "done as a friend" – a direct contradiction of what we’d agreed upon in writing on the day of joining the agency.
Ultimately, working with James ended up being more of a burden than a help. We hired him to save us time, but instead, we had to spend extra days fixing his mistakes and chasing after unfulfilled promises.
I’d recommend steering clear of In-House York. The experience was frustrating, unprofessional, and full of excuses, with no real benefit to our business.
