Lovely spot offering quaint views of the River. Unbelievable History to the Bridge as well as it was built to allow the passage of coffins across the River to the nearby Church. The pall bearers used to rest the coffins on the large stones at the entrance to the bridge en route to the funeral. Apparently it is named after Francis Birbeck (Frank) who was a well known local brewer. Some of the houses overlooking the bridge used to be breweries many years ago. A must see if in the area.

Lovely quiet spot with lovely views. Lots of dog walkers. It's possible to get down to the river and skim some stones too.

A planning application notice suggests there may soon be a children's play park potentially built near here too.

From Market square follow the signs to Frank's Bridge, lovely little picnic area, enjoy the water, follow the footpath to the village of Hartley. Turn right and follow the paths, up a steep hill whete you'll find the old Stainforth railway walk. This is a lovely walk any time of the year. Podgil is amazing in fact both viaducts ate amazing. At the end of this walk explore the waterfall underneath the bridge, the woodlands, fells, becks and the many fields and farms are beautiful plus Hartley is a lovely little village. I returned to Kirkby by walking along the river bank, stopping off at various points clambering over the rocks in the river. When I came to a footpath I turned left, away from the river Eden which brought me to the road, turning right it took me to the other end of Kirkby by the traffic lights. At Franks Bridge I cam across On the walk back I came across a cricket match, which I stopped at and watched half a dozen overs. I've enjoyed this walk many times in all weathers. From my perspective the walk gets a 10/10.

A beautiful little footbridge. Stone built. Allegedly for a local long defunct brewer. Good clear water. A lovely spot to soak your feet after walking Nine Standards Rigg on a hot dry summers day (from experience). If you can stay still long enough you may seen small brown trout zipping about at great speed (polarised sunglasses highly recommended). It's a great start and finish to walking the Nine Standards.

This bridge connects the park and walks to the town and is very useful for taking the hounds for a drink or a paddle on a hot day in the crystal clear water. A beautiful area 🙂
