What a wonderful experience
Welcome was warm and friendly
Service was excellent and the food was extra special.
The chicken liver rhubarb was smooth and the flavours contributed each other really well.
The Onglet horseradish was excellent and so tender, the horseradish packed the right amount of punch to compliment the meat.
The trout toast tasted delicious and the Bull pie was superb
Sides of green salad and roast potatoes were the perfect accompaniments.
Definitely worth a visit.

We had the absolute pleasure of dining at The Bull Inn in Charlbury, and from the moment we arrived, it was clear why this wonderful place has been named the No. 1 Pub in the UK for 2025 – and rightly so.

We ordered the sirloin steak, and it was truly exceptional. Cooked to perfection, rich, flavoursome, and beautifully presented – genuinely one of the best meals we’ve ever had.

It was my partner’s birthday, and the team had gone out of their way to leave a handwritten birthday card on the table – such a thoughtful and personal touch that meant a great deal to us.

The customer service was flawless. A special mention goes to the young lady who looked after us – warm, professional, and clearly a real asset to the team. She made us feel completely at ease and so well looked after throughout.

What really stood out was the sense of hospitality from everyone. A gentleman, who we assume was the manager, took the time to come over and have a genuinely warm conversation with us. We’re not locals, but he chatted with us like regulars – not out of obligation, but because it’s clearly part of the culture here to truly welcome every guest.

Although we’re not from the area, we left The Bull already talking about planning a return visit – it’s the kind of place that makes a lasting impression. We’ll definitely be recommending it to friends who pass through.

Wonderful stay. Great food on the menu and staff had great ambience. One small idea to offer ; - I informed the Pub of my food intolerances at least 3 weeks prior to our stay and meal. I did not have a suitable welcome cookie in our room? It would have been great not to feel 'different' on arrival at the Bull. Hopefully next stop over will be different.

The food was sublime. The pie crust was so buttery it was basically a croissant. The filling was generous with slow cooked chicken thigh and the bed of mashed potato was incredibly smooth. The trout toast was probably my favourite dish, perfectly seasoned and cut with fresh dill and pickles. By far the best pub food we have eaten in the Cotswolds. Staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Cannot fault this place.

Only minor improvement would be an outside non smoking area for dining but appreciate not many places offer this. Staff were very accommodating with us moving tables when a couple next to us up wind sparked up.

I stayed for two Night at Loaf cottage which is under the umbrella of the Bull in Charlbury. It was absolutely exquisite. I could not find the slightest fault. The gorgeous sitting room and kitchen is absolutely wonderful and the two bedrooms and the bathrooms are immaculate and the beds extremely comfortable. I stayed while the weather was very hot, but both bedrooms have got a log burner in them and I cannot think of anything more gorgeous than staying here in the winter. It is a very romantic cottage. Everything was provided and the smallest details like drinks, milk , Coffee, tea bread. We loved every moment of our day and will definitely be coming back.

The British Pub is Back

The Bull at Charlbury is everything a proper pub should be and then some. These guys have absolutely nailed it. No gimmicks, no nonsense just brilliantly executed traditional pub values, done with heart, pride and precision.

From the warm welcome to the perfectly poured pint, every detail sings. The food? Simple, seasonal, and spot on. The service is relaxed but on point, the interiors are cosy without trying too hard, and the atmosphere? It’s like stepping back into the kind of pub we all thought had vanished.

They’ve quietly proved that the great British pub can still be done and done exceptionally well. Hats off to the team. If you’ve lost faith in what a local can be, go to The Bull. It’ll restore it in one visit.

We had a fab lunch here to celebrate a birthday! Blessed with fab weather, we sat in the garden and enjoyed a lovely lunch! The waiting staff were brilliant - attentive and knowledgeable. Nothing too much trouble. The menu is creative and actually, for quality and providence, really good value. Great to meet Sally Abe, head chef too to top off a memorable experience - will definitely be back! Mark and Tracey

A wonderful countryside escape!
We had a fantastic overnight stay at The Bull the perfect retreat in a beautiful location. Just an easy drive out of London, it’s ideal for a quick getaway. The food was absolutely delicious: simple, seasonal, and full of flavour. The wine list was also excellent, with some great bottles to choose from. Service and comms were warm and efficient, and the whole experience felt effortlessly special. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a laid back escape with seriously good food and wine.
