What a fabulous building. Seeped in history and tradition. Sitting in the hall on our numbered seats - gave you a sense of all that transpired there. Each mine represented.
We were there for part of Durham Brass festival 2025. The band were as usual utterly fantastic ( you can follow them on social media) - instruments shining - drum ready with it's incredible deep tone. Music was wonderful - and within this setting was so beautiful with its great acoustics. We then listened ( as part of BBC 4 radio) poems from local artists relating to mining days. THEN the incredible story line from LYR - of Class D villages closed in the North East ( many without reason) - separating communities. They put together a film with interviews, poems and finally songs. ' Say their names' brought tears to my eyes. Their message 'Firm as a rock we stand '
What a great (well supported) night. In an incredible building with it's make-shift bar with great service - good night. You can visit Redhills - even just sitting outside you feel it's history - it's journey. Wonderful
