Really interesting venue! Great place to have a wander and a coffee. We also had a talk about the Pitmen Painters, an art club set up by minors which ran until the pit closures in the 1980’s.

An excellent museum about the mining industry in Britian. The website does not do the place justice. Full of great information and the timeline showing how the mining industry changed and effected the people from approx 1910 to the late 1980s is brilliantly laid out and very interesting. You will need a few hours here to be able to enjoy it fully.

Lovely museum with a rich history! Came here to see how our ancestors lived and made a living. Didn't have a chance to get to the archive but must come back to see it! Cafe was nice, lots of picnic benches and grassy areas and a play park for the kids

An amazing museum detailing the story and lives in the woodhorn colliery. It really brings the past to life. Our kids were enthralled. A great centre, really friendly staff, we visited in the Summer holidays and there was additional activities put on for the youngsters . The cafe looked good, gift shop and picnic area also great. Upstairs there is a library and gallery space. At the point we visited it was £11 per adult, kids get in free. There was an exhibition showcasing the art produced by the local colliery art group. Great value. Definitely enough to keep you here for a half day or more.

Another 5 Star Attraction in this area. We visited 23rd October 2024, and it's more than worth a visit. Great place for people of all ages. Fabulous caferia with great staff. It shows how life was for miners. There is a wonderful collection of paintings by the Ashington Group. These artists were all miners. This collection of paintings is worth the visit to Woodhorn on it's own.
The entrance fee lasts for 12 months and there is more to see on each visit.
