Well laid out museum with an interesting array of local history. The building it is housed in is an eye opener on how the wealthy lived in early 19c. It's also free.

Lovely building and interior with lots of interesting, varied exhibitions throughout all well labelled and informative. Regiment and shopping displays were my favourites but enjoyed it all and will be back. A real hidden gem- too good to be free, well worth a voluntary donation!

A delightful visit to Bankfield Museum.

During a day trip to Halifax, my daughter suggested we visit Bankfield Museum, and it turned out to be an absolute gem! We weren't sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed our visit.

The highlight for us was the stunning display of Chris Mould's art—truly captivating. We also loved the fascinating exhibits on the Brontë sisters, Ted Hughes, and the history of the Duke of Wellington's regiment. The smaller displays showcasing Halifax’s local history were equally engaging. I even learned that both Quality Street chocolates and the inventor of Cats Eyes originated from this area—what a fun discovery!

The museum itself is spacious, well-laid out, and easy to explore at your own pace.

Unfortunately, the fashion section was closed for refurbishment, which was a slight disappointment for my daughter. As for me… I can’t say I missed it too much 😁

Overall, Bankfield Museum is a wonderful place to visit, packed with history and charm. Well done to the team for creating such an enjoyable experience. Highly recommended!

Didn't even know this place existed. Well worth a visit though. The exhibits are informative and spaced out and will take at least a couple of hours to get the whole experience.

Absolutely lovely museum in Halifax. The staff were nice, but what I loved was going through the poetry section and the small period costume section. Also recommend the beautiful Darcy display and the costume are where you can try on the regency dresses! Must visit for history buffs
