Large National Trust property with house and gardens open to the public. We only had a stroll to stretch our legs and bite to eat on our way to London so can't comment on the interior of the house (hence only four stars) though, from the outside, it looked very grand and imposing. The grounds are huge with various walks ranging from 20 minutes to a couple of hours through meadows and woodland. There is a café on site also a shop, plant sales and a used book shop. All the staff we met were very helpful and friendly. Parking and loos available.

We queued to get into the car park for around 30 minutes. The volunteers kept us well informed.

Lovely house and gardens with huge grounds to explore too. We spent a few hours there including a long walk through the forest. Interesting to learn about the wartime history of the house - as well as the property’s features in many TV shows and films.

Beautiful heritage, some rooms kept with original ceilings and wall coverage. Lots of info on history. Cafe is nice , price £4 hot chocolate and £4 big slice of cake. Beautiful grounds to walk round, outdoors is dog friendly.

Had previously visited during the summer months and explored the extensive grounds then. This time very much enjoyed the Christmas themed rooms in the house and a small exhibition on the films and TV productions that have been filmed there.

A huge National Trust house set in large grounds. Plenty of parking, then a short walk past the shop through a wood to the front of the house. Lots of interesting things to see as you travel round the rooms. I especially liked the ‘shell’ room with thousands of shells of all shapes and sizes. Some of them intricately carved with historical scenes.
