What a fabulous place. The hall and castle are so interesting to walk around and the walk through the forest is like Jurassic Park! All the family will enjoy a visit. My elderly father managed all the walk. We also visited the castle tearoom and enjoyed the delightful cakes. At the moment there is a lighthouse to watch and Taskmaster tasks to take part in.

This place is fantastic. Wondering around the Hall and Castle taking in the history. The Quarry gardens are fantastic too. Knowing all the stone came from the Quarry the build the hall. It is good for the kids as well, plenty of exploring. There is a adventure playground as well. The café are a nice place to relax and have something to eat and drink. Toilets are very clean and modern. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. The weather was not brilliant, rained on and off but still enjoyed it. I will definitely be back next time I am up here.

Love this place, so peaceful with plenty of places just to sit and watch the world go by within the space of beautiful gardens... Cafe is nice with a wide range of drinks and food.. The book shop is well stocked, pay by an honesty box.. The hall itself, is full of history.. And don't forget to climb the steps to get to the roof of the castle... Wonderful few hours out..

We had initially thought we wouldn't be at Belsay Hall very long, but ended up spending a few hours here. The kids made use of the lawn games and playground and we had a good wonder round the hall (not decorated / furnished - but still impressive) / the castle (mostly ruins, but able to walk to top and view out) and the quarry walk. The quarry walk was a surprise win, really nice little walk connecting the main entrance and hall area with the castle area. We could have spent a bit longer here if the kids had the energy as there was another walk, but didn't get a chance to do this.

The Gardens were superb and by far the best!
The castle and Hall were a little disappointing as clearly needs some refurbishment being done!! The stair case was by far the main feature. Stunning! But the rooms were very damp, windows and walls run down. Could be a much nicer place to visit with some Artwork on the walls but off course in its current state, duento damp level, this is not possible.
I don't understand why dogs are not permitted in the Hall or Castle as there is nothing to damage really... It is a shell.
I hope some investment could be had in this beautiful building to be off the same standard as the Gardens.
There was no clear explanation as to what the basement was used for and what the stone troughs were.
All in all thoroughly enjoyed the gardens but main Hall needs some serious attention whilst maintaining some of the original features.

I love it here. I've been a fair few times now, and will be back again.
The gardens are so pretty. The staff are so kind, polite and helpful. Plenty of parking.

The only negative is the basement area of the building. The damp is quite bad down there, and seems to be getting worse. I no longer feel safe or comfortable down there due to it. This doesn't change my view on how amazing this place is, and after seeing the basement once there isn't really much to go and see next time round anyway!

What a fantastic visit
The castle itself is relatively small but the approach via the gorge is incredible and looks more like a backdrop from Jurassic Park.
The hall is certainly worth visiting an abundance of rooms are open and being unfurnished you appreciate the size of the house, the entrance is truly spectacular and for me the hall was the highlight of my visit.
There are a couple cafés for coffees etc and a large car park not far from the main entrance be aware that the Castle is a bit of a walk from the entrance.

A last minute decision to come up north for a visit. It is well worth it, a huge Hall to walk round, lots of out buildings, a walk through the woods and quarry towards the castle. 2 cafes one near the entrance and the other at the castle. We ate at Hall Cafe, quite expensive to be honest but as members we got 2 kids meals for free to balance out the cost out. You also have more menu choices at the larger Castle cafe, it also has plenty of outsoor seating. The whole place has plenty of things for the kids to do,a play area or searching the woods for fairy doors this time. Some Taskmaster events to take part in throughout around the whole site.
It's well worth a visit.
