Great venue for live music. I attended the Big Day Out 8th October 2022. 12 live acts throughout the day. Bar staff , sound guy, security all excellent. The car park is not huge and could be a problem, however many people traveled in by bus from Barnsley hotels. Buses running back into Barnsley at 11.50pm was fantastic ! £4.50 return.
The venue was very good, with TV screens showing the stage if it was a really busy event. Tables and chairs down one side , could possibly have benefitted from more seating. Great that there was a separate bar area with seating if you wanted to chat without disturbing people listening to music. Chatting while a band is on is disrespectful and spoils it for those who paid to listen to the band ! So having another warm, indoor area was a bonus. There are tables and chairs outside too, with catering van or picnic area present . Great place !

UPDATE. October 2024. I attended for the 3rd year running. I can confirm that the event and the venue and staff continue to impress . Excellent venue, with good facilities. Well run, clean with professional well organised staff.

What a cracking music venue. I visited here many years ago and returned tonight to see an Elton John Tribute Act. What a fantastic job they've done of renovating the place. Its easy to find with a car park to the side and on street parking. Toilets are clean and accessible and maintained to a good standard. The main room had tv screens showing the act all around so that you have a great view of the stage where ever you stand. The only down side is that it is predominantly standing with only bench seating to the sides of the room. The bar area had a queueing system which was fantastic and there are plenty of friendly bar staff. Drinks are reasonably priced. All in all a really good music venue we will definately be back.

We travelled from Lincoln on Saturday night to see The Undertones. We've never been to the venue before & we loved it. Spacious, cool, friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Easy to get to just off the motorway and plentiful free parking in nearby streets was a bonus. We're hoping to be back again soon ?❤

What a gem of a place. Looks a tad shabby from the roadside but brightens up when you go round the corner to the entrance. Nicely done out in the main bar with plenty of comfortable seating. Concert hall of a good size. Was all seating (with tables) when I attended so top marks again. I can imagine it being very busy at times but the bar was cordoned to make a one way system which is always a bonus. Decent selection of beers and spirits at reasonable prices. All the staff were friendly and well mannered. Large, very clean urinals but requires a new privacy latch on the one wc cubicle. Looking forward to seeing many more gigs there.

Great venue and great staff. I went to see Karine Polwart, who was absolutely wonderful. As l was using a wheelchair l was slightly concerned about the seating arrangements,etc. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff to ensure all wheelchair users had a good night .... along with everybody else. Thank you Birdwell Venue. Fantastic night.

Visited here yesterday to see Chantel Mc Gregor & her support Tom Killner. The venue was really nice, it was a hot night & they had air conditioning which was wonderful made the night a whole less sweaty. Tom Killner was fab, first time seen Chantel god can she play the guitar ?
