I had a moment the other day...

And it happened next to a shop till.

Last Monday we were dropping off flyers for the ThinkLocalFirst campaign flyers to local businesses. We'd been going for about an hour when I popped into a shop down in Eastover, Bridgwater.

Chatting to a shop owner, I handed over the promo goodies. And then came the moment...

They asked for my business card!!!

I dropped the card on the counter, on top of the campaign material. And my heart missed a beat! Because the whole damn thing looked soooo damn good. I mean really good. Really, really good.

Joined-up. Polished. Like we know what we were doing… (which we mostly do, but now we look like we do, too).

That’s the moment I knew Melanie Downing and the team at Design Hive (South West) Ltd had quietly pulled off something brilliant.

As a marketer, I believe every campaign should evolve your marketing in some way, improving it campaign, by campaign. That might be improving assets, sharpening storytelling, building clarity, even developing your CRM. And for Sedgemoor fm...

This campaign has been a real-world, high-street test of how well our materials connect. The Design Hive team didn’t just add polish. They brought cohesion. Confidence. And that “missing ingredient” that somehow makes a design pop without shouting.

Great branding is like the final piece in a jigsaw, you don’t always know what’s missing, but when it drops into place (on a shop counter in this case), everything just feels complete.

It’s easy to undervalue design. Until you realise it’s not just how you look, it’s how you’re understood.

So, here’s to the designers who see what we can’t, and who say “yeah… no” in the nicest possible way, when they hear a bad idea!

Working with The Design Hive has been a complete pleasure as they’ve really helped to bring Sopha alive. From our initial meeting and creative brief they managed to take all of our thoughts and combine them into a fantastic choice of avenues to go down with our brand, but really there was only ever one winner.

Our striking colours and cheeky koala have come to life through some truly magical projects designed by Melanie, Tash & Jason. The branding has worked in every format we’ve thrown at The Design Hive, from the initial business cards and signage to the leaflets, adverts, posters, loyalty cards and so many other projects they’ve completed for us.

The Design Hive are now onto two other large projects for us, as well as continuing to produce new brochures and keeping up with our adverts they are now working to produce new product packaging and a new e-commerce website.

It’s always been a pleasure to work with the team at The Design Hive and it always puts a massive grin on our faces to walk into their office and see our branding alongside such other amazing businesses. No project has been too big or small for them and despite what we throw at them they always seem to carry on smiling!

I asked Design Hive to do what I thought was the impossible. Design a postcard and a pop up banner, get both printed, and delivered within 3 days! Also I needed quality. Wow, they stepped up to the task. Providing a quote within hours. And then sending me the first proofs within a day. Once I’d signed those off, the materials arrived the day after to my home address. Absolutely amazing! Would certainly use again.

Design Hive proved an excellent choice to create an interpretation board for our village biodiversity project.
