We were staying in Stirling and visited Doune Castle which is 15 min away. It is famous for movies (Outlander, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Game of thrown. It was worth a visit and learn about the history. There is an audio guide which was helpful.

The on-site parking facilities are limited, with only two designated spaces for individuals with disabilities. Visitors may be directed to utilize a nearby car park, which has a capacity of 34 spaces. Consequently, it is advisable to anticipate potential parking constraints. The castle itself offers a worthwhile experience. Upon entry, guests receive a complimentary audio tour that provides comprehensive historical context, including details related to the television series "Outlander," which utilized Doune Castle as a filming location. The self-guided tour, adhering to a one-way system, requires approximately one hour to complete when utilizing the audio guide. A modestly sized (and expensive) gift shop, is located on the ground floor. All in all Doune Castle is worth a visit to occupy a morning/afternoon.

If you a fan of Outlander, Game of Thrones or Monthy Python & The Holy Grail, it is of course fun to see the place that is famous for being used in these films/series - and the audio guide tells you about about the use in these films - but to be honest, there are more interesting and impressive castles in Scotland than this.

Especially in the high season there are a lot of tourists and the parking lot gets filled op, so we were send to a nearby school to park.

The walls are being renovated so at the moment the outside walk is closed.

As a historical castle, there are so many better castles nearby. But there’s only one Monty Python castle.

The grounds are lovely as well. Only share is you can’t get up on the battlements and taunt your friends.

We loved it here. No parking for motorhomes. You need to park at the Ponds across the village and walk back. There is parking for other cars. You get an audio guide included with the ticket price which was £10 when we went in June. It was a funny audio guide and very informative. The castle itself is super interesting and worth a visit.

Doune was our first stop on a castle-viewing road trip, and what a great way to start!
My partner I purchased the Historic Explorer pass in advance, so entry was ‘free’. There was no cue to get in, but it was early on a weekday… Onsite parking was pretty tight though, so prepare to park in the village and walk.

The castle staff were great, and the property well maintained to reflect its origins.
I appreciated the 2 audio guides at different spots in the castle; one for historic education, and the other, a narrative from Sam Heughan about Outlander!

Cute gift shop at the end and gorgeous nature trails around the property if you’re looking for a longer visit!

Doune Castle is a must-visit, especially for Monty Python and the Holy Grail fans! The moment you step inside, you can almost hear the taunting French soldier from the iconic sketch. The castle itself is impressively well-preserved, with a fascinating history and stunning views from the battlements. The audio guide, narrated by Terry Jones, adds a hilarious touch for Python lovers. Beyond the castle, a beautiful riverside walk offers a peaceful escape into nature. Whether you're here for the history, the scenery, or the comedy, Doune Castle delivers on all fronts.

Great place, so many nooks and crannies to explore. Suggest good footwear tho as extremely uneven. If you're a Monty Python or Outlander fan, definitely a must, they even have an audio tour with Terry and Sam!
