Worth a visit as one of the biggest timber structures in Europe. Access is limited so check out when the open days are. Parking is a challenge so be prepared to walk a bit.

1n 1972 I was on a ship that loaded coal here for Deptford Creek in London. I remember a pub just outside called the Cross Keys. I'm just reading a book by a chap that went to sea in 1925 and he mentions both of these. The Staiths and the pub. I have also seen it in an episode or maybe two of Vera.

Stroll along the Tyne at Dunston. The Staithes, the largest wooden structure in Europe was sadly not open for access this morning, but good views anyway

You get to see up and down the river from a completely different perspective, it’s definitely worth the walk / climb up the stairs! When the market is on, there is always a fantastic and friendly atmosphere. A definite feel of community spirit.
