Beautiful place! Interesting history and very approachable and well informed National trust volunteers peppered in each room. Geoff (Jeff?) was notably captivating with his stories and facts. Really worth a visit.

Absolutely stunning architecture. Beautiful stable yard and grounds. Free for national trust and a must for harry potter fans. Small village is very pretty to grab a cream tea. Car park available. Please be considerate to residents.

Absolutely stunning in terms of architecture. The building itself is a magical foray into historic catholic nunnery. A great experience.

The gardens and green spaces surrounding the abbey were also spectacular, though the time to visit Lacock is defiantly in the Spring and Summer when the plants are in bloom.

A star off due to lack of signage for the plants in the garden and green spaces. I would like to know what botanic I am looking at.

Wow, Laycock National Trust is absolutely stunning 😍 ✨️ and I'm a massive Harry Potter fan. So if you are too. This is the place to be ✨️ Village is beautiful and also local Bakers shop! I highly recommend a visit and pop in for a hot drink and homemade cakes 🎂. Residents are so polite and trustworthy. Literally couldn't believe this was England still. An absolute treasure is all I can say. I will be back to see it in summer, I can't wait 🤗 x

It was a spur of the moment to visit Lacock Abbey, but very pleased we did.
It was a cold crisp day and not busy at all.

The Abbey is 800 years old, so was amazing to wander around and take in the all the past history of the house and the vast grounds.

We were able to visit the Cloisters, made even more special and famous by the Harry Potter films.
Was a nice feeling knowing that and being there too!
There was some amazing stone carvings set into the centre pieces of the vaulted ceilings, amazing to work out what they were, though was a strain on your neck!!😬😂😂

The great Hall was closed, which was disappointing.

Walking around the grounds was quite impressive too, many very old huge trees, see one of them in the pictures😁

It seemed that there was private access from the Abbey grounds directly into the church👌sweet.

Great history of photography was created here at the Abbey, by its owner, Mr Fox Talbot, this was amazing to know, then see information in the museum.

A great place to come and visit.
It’s owned by the National Trust, so all free to it’s members👍😁

Langkok Abbey is a charming little spot that’s perfect for a brief visit. We went on a winter day, which gave it a serene beauty but understandably lacked the vibrant colors of spring or summer. That’s no fault of the abbey itself—more a reflection of the season. Even so, it’s easy to imagine how lovely it must look in warmer months, with light green foliage and flowers blooming all around, adding a lively touch to the quaint structure. It’s an ideal place for a short walk in the park, soaking in the views and the peaceful atmosphere. A delightful little destination for some quiet time outdoors.

Beautiful autumn colours at Lacock.
The Abbey is set in wonderful grounds. The history is fascinating, especially seeing it turned into a home and changing through periods of time.
We discovered the owner of the Abbey also owned all of the village and was worried about the community, so she left it all to the National Trust.

First visit - Valentine's Day 2025 (coincidence not because of! 😄) and too early in the year for the Abbey itself to be open. My daughter came with and she isn't a NT member but, as the Abbey was closed, she got a discount (from a hefty £20 down to £13). It was a cold day but we enjoyed walking round the grounds and the cloisters (which featured in the 1st 2 Harry Potter films) and the spaces which led off the cloisters that were used by the nuns for various functions. Our tickets also gave us entry to the Henry Fox Talbot museum. Fox Talbot inherited Lacock Abbey and is famous as being the English inventor of photography (there was a Frenchman Joseph Nicéphore Niépce who was doing similar at about the same time!) The Abbey site is surrounded by a quaint village with a school, shops, cafés and pubs.
