Just spent an excellent couple of hours exploring Richmond Castle.
There's plenty still standing to get a real taste of what it was like in its prime. What made our visit even better was the very simple addition of many information boards throughout the site ( sadly some castles have very little ) which brought the castle to life.
The grounds are manicured and very well maintained.
I could say more but it's best you visit and experience the castle.

Great castle set up high above the river. Good information and lovely garden is worth a look too parking in Richmond in general tricky with town centre parking 2 hours maximum. Museum above shop very interesting with information about the conscientious objectors held in the castle during ww1.

One of my favourite English Heritage sites. If you can pay a visit on a sunny weekday in October, this place is unbeatable. It has a little museum that provides a useful historical background that will help you understand better the actual site. Apart from the amazing views from the main tower, the place has plenty of benches strategically located that allow visitors to rest and enjoy wonderful views of the surroundings and the castle. English Heritage staff are remarkably friendly in this site. The only inconvenience is parking. If you need more than two hours for this visit, you will have to park in one of the parking lots located downhill and the walking uphill can be a bit too strenuous for older people and/or with mobility issues. If you intend to spend less than two hours, the free parking in the market square is the best option by far. Get the free parking disc at the city information center, in the Victorian market hall.

Lovely day out idea to visit a 1,000 years old Richmond Castle. £8.50 for the tickets per Adult is a bit to much. If you can please go to the top for the lovely view you will not be disappointed.

A lovely town set a top of a hill with a beautifully kept castle ruin with a tower that gives you stunning 360° views of the area.
Large open space to wander around the castle grounds with information to read to get a good insight into what once was.
Well worth paying the entrance fee to get a proper look at it all.
Very reasonably priced and best to visit on a quiet week day.

A beautiful castle remains overlooking the scenic town of Richmond. Entry fee is reasonable, and cheaper online in advance. Gorgeous views from all angles which get better the further up the main tower you go. Plenty to explore and do within the castle grounds.
