I’m from Norwich and had never been to Cornwall, me and my 3 friends visited this pub and loved the people and beers! The owner is a lovely lovely man and showed us the ancestory of his family, lots of Cornwalls popular beers and a few fun games! It was a shame our stay in Cornwall wasn’t very long but next time we are there we will definitely be paying visit to this pub! We loved it!

Cosy little place, Staff nice but some customers let it down. Two blokes spoiling for a fight. Allowed to stay in pub instead of kicking them out. Very tense atmosphere.

I go to the Cornish Ancestor for the folk music sessions, the Ancestor Sessions, which I love.
On my first visit, the landlord was very friendly and welcoming, trying to find me (and everyone after) a seat, as it was very busy, and I walk with a stick at the minimum.
The barman got to know me very quickly and remembered my name despite my only going there once a month, at most.
The chap who organises the folk sessions was also very welcoming and made sure I felt included. It's an incredibly friendly and welcoming place and I've recommended it to others, who now also go along.
One chap, who now is the new bar chap, has always asked to walk me to my car whenever I leave, even if it's only over the road, to ensure I get there safely. It's just so lovely.
My only, very tiny niggle, is that some of the seating is too high for me, as I struggle with it with my knee arthritis and often need to change my leg positions. The landlord came up with the genius solution of handmade stools to raise anyone's legs and feet for comfort, but I'd still prefer to be a little lower. That is the very smallest of niggles and I have to say, if that's the worst I can come up with, then he's obviously doing something right!

Great little micro pub, a bit like having a beer in your living room.
There's no pumps on the bar, just a list of excellent beers and ciders which they gout "out the back" to get.
Next time I'm in Callington, I'll certainly return to this great little place.
Ps. No marks for food because I didn't have any!

I have heard about the Ancestor for some time and have followed via social media, so whilst in Callington on Thursday evening myself and my family decided to give it a go. What a find! A proper pub where conversation rules, nice friendly locals, the lady behind the bar was down to earth and new her ciders and ales. The quality of the ales on offer were superb, all served direct from the barrel, the cider was also in top condition. I had a couple of pints of Treens Classic, auburn in colour, crystal clear, malty and moreish with a real biscuity flavour, my wife had a pint of Farmer Jim's medium cider, that was also gurt lush! We will be back, thank you.
