The Theatre Chipping Norton is a hidden gem in the heart of a picturesque market town. Originally built as a Salvation Army citadel in 1888, it later became a theatre in 1975, thanks to the vision of two RSC actors and the support of the community. This charming venue, with its 217-seat proscenium arch auditorium, offers an intimate setting that enhances the connection between performers and audiences.
Far from being just a theatre, it serves as a vibrant multi-arts spaceโ€”combining cinema, gallery, concert hall, and community resource. Its unique character and eccentric charm have earned it both affection and acclaim, drawing over 55,000 visitors annually. The theatre also hosts an impressive variety of events, from productions and concerts to a beloved Christmas panto.
What stands out most is the theatre's intimate atmosphere, which simply cannot be compared to larger venues. The synergy between actors and viewers creates a truly special experience. While small in size, The Theatre Chipping Norton certainly makes a big impact, and we can't wait to return!

Very much a community based arts centre with a wide variety of entertainment and world class annual pantomime. The seating doesn't always allow great viewing. The staff are really lovely.

Beautiful theater converted from Salvation Army citadel. Intimate atmosphere and very friendly staff. Fantastic range of plays to see a great little venue with a good selection of drinks and snacks to be had before the show and at the interval .
My only issue with the theater is that all of the seats are at the same level so if you have someone tall in front of you it might be a little difficult to see whats going on on the stage

Great theatre created in the 1960. It has pantos, plays and drama workshops for children taking place at the weekend and during school holidays. Children rehearse a show then perform it in front of their family.
