Quaint little port town, with peculiar Scotish style buildings and a beautiful cathedral - St Magnus - surrounded by a graveyard that gives it a cool atmosphere, as if you were in a movie set. The place is quite windy and cold, so prepare for that kind of weather. Puffins are found here and can become a sensation if you can spot them.

I would happily advise these orcadian island's to start looking a slowly merging more along with Norway 🇳🇴, Finland 🇫🇮, Sweden 🇸🇪, or Denmark 🇩🇰 and faroe island's 🇫🇴, and have more connections with the Scandinavian governments, and royalty 👑 😀 😉, as these island's could become independent like faroe 🇫🇴 and Cyprus 🇨🇾, even start up their own local military reserves Regiments, and have strong connections with instant schengen diplomatic immunity, inclusive with NATO and the UN aswell 👍🏻.

Typical Tourist Information Centre. As you'd expect there is plenty of information available and some potentially good gifts to take back home.

It was very handily placed for us, but just before we arrived, a double shuttle bus of tourists arrived, and we were engulfed by them and their guides!!
We went back later in the day, and wandered around the gift shop at leisure, which was nice.
I particularly liked the display of many countries flags, which must be nice for foreign visitors to see on arrival.
The centre appeared to have plentiful information available for visitors, and the staff appeared pleasant and helpful.

Small but interesting visitor centre that has a lot of useful information. It does not have loos, but these are just round the corner in the bus station. There is also a small gift shop.
The staff were really helpful and friendly. If you are going to Kirkwall, this is a good place to start.

Without the people here we wouldn't have been able to figure everything out. We are savvy about using online sources but there are some things only the locals know and can parse out. This was true everywhere we traveled in Scotland. The plan to close these facilities is pure madness!
